Treatment of Diabetes Insipidus:

Get Help Now >

Thank you for your interest in the Natural Medicine approach to treating disease and healthy living! Caring Medical is currently a full time Prolotherapy doctor's office, headed by Ross Hauser, MD and we are blessed to fill the needs of patients seeking an alternative to surgery. We are accepting new patients and athletes suffering from chronic pain, sports injuries, and arthritis for treatment with Prolotherapy. Due to this large demand in Prolotherapy, we are not currently accepting new patients for natural medicine conditions, this includes autoimmune conditions, weight loss, menopause, hormones, or cancer. Through the years, we have seen so many lives turn around for the better with some of the methods discussed on this page, and encourage you to seek a Natural Medicine practitioner at www.acam.org.

The Response of Traditional Medicine
Because the diabetes insipidus if difficult to identify with traditional diagnosic tools, the disease is rarely diagnosed by physicians. When the symptoms present, however, the modern medical treatment approach involves regulating the fluid levels in the body through a variety of means, including consistently high fluid intake. The diuretics hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) and amiloride may also be prescribed to improve symptoms. Although these medications are usually used to increase urine output, in the case of individuals with DI they can actually reduce the urine output. However, although any of these treatment options may relieve the symptoms of the condition, they unfortunately do not get at the root of the problem.

In rare cases, when diabetes insipidus is identified, the treatment option involves controlling the condition with vasopressin, which may be administered in one of several ways: (1) as a nasal spray using a small plastic tube and gently blowing the liquid into the nostril, where it is readily absorbed by the tissue of the nose lining; (2) as oral pills; or (3) intravenously. While vasopressin may work for individuals with central DI, it is ineffective for patients with nephrogenic diabetes insipidus. Since this type of DI is often caused by medication, one approach is to stop the medication, which may lead to the recovery of normal kidney function. Antidiurects, mentioned above, may also be used to treat nephrogenic DI, as is the anti-inflammatory medication indomethacin. Again, although many of these treatment options may temporarily relieve the symptoms, they do not get at the root of the problem. And in the case of the potential long-term use of anti-inflammatories, chronic pain, allergies and leaky gut syndrome may result. The use of radiotherapy and systemic chemotherapy in treating the lesion around the pituitary is currently being investigated. In most cases, however, these therapies have failed to reverse the condition.

Caring Medical's Natural Medicine Approach to Diabetes Insipidus
When a patient shows symptoms of diabetes insipidus, we typically are more likely to recognize the condition. We may commonly diagnosis diabetes insipidus through serum malignin testing, which shows if a patient's blood is water deficient. We may also check a patient's ADH levels to see if the patient is lacking the hormone vasopressin. Once a diagnosis is made, we may provide the patient with the substrates the body needs to heal itself, through natural hormones, supplements, and diet, in an attempt to reverse the condition. If diabetes insipidus is the result of injury to the pituitary gland, brought about by a concussion, for example, it is often temporary. Here, the body would not be secreting enough of the anti-diuretic hormone vasopressin. Symptoms of this would include frequent urination to the point of disrupting sleep, as well as excessive thirst, with the result of dehydration. Structures in the body such as discs and cartilage in the joints are very sensitive to water, and dehydration as a result of hormonal imbalances may results in chronic pain. In this case, natural hormone therapy, supplements and dietary changes are often all that the body needs to heal itself.

This program is designed for the person who has a chronic condition such as diabetes insipidus and is ready to take a serious step in getting to the root cause of their condition. Ross Hauser, MD and Marion Hauser, MS, RD have developed this program over years of experience in both the traditional and natural medicine fields. There are three programs and each is priced as a package. As a New Patient, the individual tests and consultations each play a significant role in the program. In other words, we use the minimum number of tests that will tell us the maximum amount of information, to help you attain optimum health. That is what the Hauser Diet® Natural Medicine Program is all about. Some individuals may require additional laboratory tests, but most just need the program as discussed here.

Good Candidates for our Natural Medicine Program include patients who want to seriously utilize the principles of the Hauser Diet®, are motivated to make necessary lifestyle modifications, are willing to start an aggressive herbal program, and in some cases take natural hormone replacement, or do other natural medicine modalities as needed.

If you are interested in more information about our natural medicine program, or to schedule an appointment with Dr. Hauser, please contact Caring Medical at 708-848-7789 or online using our contact form.
