Treatment of Jumper's Knee:

Get Help Now >

The Response of Modern Medicine
Location of pain and injury in jumper's knee As is typical with most sports injuries, standard modern medical treatment for an inflamed or acute Jumper's Knee is ice, ibuprofen and to simply keep going. The problem with this approach is manifold: ice may decrease the inflammation and thereby reduce the pain, but inflammation is what helps an area heal by increasing circulation. Ice does the opposite – it reduces circulation and slows down healing. And although anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen help alleviate the pain, in the long run, they do more damage than good – they result in long-term loss of function and even more chronic pain by actually inhibiting the healing process of soft tissues and accelerating cartilage degeneration. Plus, long-term use of these drugs can lead to other sources of chronic pain, allergies and leaky gut syndrome. And finally, “keeping going” after masking the pain with treatments that actually inhibit the healing process will ultimately lead to degenerated or chronic Jumper 's Knee . In other words, these treatments do nothing to repair the deteriorated tissue and, thus, do not alleviate the chronic pain that people with this condition experience

Other modern medical treatment options include cryotherapy and massage. But again, although they may provide pain relief, they do not address the root of the problem – weakened or injured tendons and ligaments. When all else fails, patients whose Jumper's Knee has progressed to the chronic stage may be referred to a surgeon. Unfortunately, surgery often makes the problem worse. Surgeons will use x-ray technology as a diagnostic tool, which does not always properly diagnose the pain source. Decisions to remove tissue will most commonly result in arthritis.

The Natural Medicine Approach to Jumper's Knee
If the condition has deteriorated to chronic Jumper's Knee, or patellar tendinosis, in which the tendon has started to deteriorate, a better approach is to stimulate repair of the patellar tendon, as well as any ligaments that may also be weak or injured, with Prolotherapy. While cortisone and other anti-inflammatories weaken soft tissues, Prolotherapy strengthens them. Once the degenerative condition has been treated, the tendon is still inflamed, and the patient will now still have acute Jumper's Knee, or patellar tendonitis. Applying MEAT treatment, which consists of movement, exercise, analgesics and treatment, as well as herbal supplements, will restore the knee to health. If the condition is addressed before the chronic stage has been reached, MEAT treatment and herbal supplements are usually all that's needed to help the tendon and ligaments heal. And as the figure so clearly shows, ligament laxity affects tendons and stressed tendons affect ligament laxity, a vicious circle that only Prolotherapy can send.

Prolotherapy of the knee Chronic pain is most commonly due to tendon and ligament weakness or cartilage deterioration. The safest and most effective natural medicine treatment for repairing tendon, ligament and cartilage damage is Prolotherapy. In simple terms, Prolotherapy stimulates the body to repair painful areas. It does so by inducing a mild inflammatory reaction in the weakened ligaments, tendons and cartilage. Since the body heals by inflammation, Prolotherapy stimulates healing.

Prolotherapy offers the most curative results in treating chronic pain. It effectively eliminates pain because it attacks the source: the fibro-osseous junction, an area rich in sensory nerves. What's more, the tissue strengthening and pain relief stimulated by Prolotherapy is permanent!
