CONDITION: Pemphigus Vulgaris

DESCRIPTION:
An autoimmune disease, pemphigus vulgaris appears as an unusual, possibly fatal, blistering of the skin and mucous membranes.
Areas most commonly affected by the blisters, which vary in size, include the
lining of the mouth, the thin covering of the penis and the vagina. This condition
usually only affects the elderly or people of middle age.
How does pemphigus vulgaris develop?
The disease occurs when the body's immune system wages an attack against the
epidermal cell surface structures, which maintain cell-to-cell contact and
tissue texture. The resulting blisters, which usually start in the mouth,
eventually rupture and become painful ulcers. This process may continue until
the whole lining of the mouth is affected. On the skin, blisters also may
form, eventually rupturing, and leaving crusted and raw wounds. This blistering
can spread and eventually lead to serious infection.
What are the symptoms of pemphigus vulgaris?
Symptoms of pemphigus vulgaris include soft,
fluid-filled blisters of differing sizes and patches of scaling.
Conventional medical treatments may help relieve the symptoms
of pemphigus vulgaris but they do not address
the root of the problem. Generally, by undergoing comprehensive natural medicine
testing, the reasons the body is producing antibodies against itself can be
found. Some of these reasons include sensitivities or allergies to foods, inhalants
and chemicals and various infections.
