DESCRIPTION:

Thank you for your interest in the Natural Medicine approach to treating disease and healthy living! Caring Medical is currently a full time Prolotherapy doctor's office, headed by Ross Hauser, MD and we are blessed to fill the needs of patients seeking an alternative to surgery. We are accepting new patients and athletes suffering from chronic pain, sports injuries, and arthritis for treatment with Prolotherapy. Due to this large demand in Prolotherapy, we are not currently accepting new patients for natural medicine conditions, this includes autoimmune conditions, weight loss, menopause, hormones, or cancer. Through the years, we have seen so many lives turn around for the better with some of the methods discussed on this page, and encourage you to seek a Natural Medicine practitioner at www.acam.org.

Reiter's syndrome is a chronic, progressive autoimmune disease that involves inflammation of the joints and tendon attachments at the joints, the skeleton, and sometimes the eye's conjunctiva and the mucous membranes. Reiter's syndrome most frequently occurs in patients in their thirties or forties, but it can occur at any age. The form of Reiter's syndrome that occurs after genital infection (venereal) occurs more frequently in males. The form that develops after bowel infection (dysentery) occurs in equal frequency in males and females.

How does Reiter's syndrome develop?
Like all autoimmune diseases, Reiter's syndrome is in part due to a problem with the immune system. The immune system produces antibodies that attack healthy tissues in the body, causing inflammation. Reiter's syndrome is a subtype of reactive arthritis. Reactive arthritis is inflammation of the joints caused by certain bacterial infections. The arthritis occurs after a person has experienced a bacterial infection, and the bacteria travel through the body to a joint or joints. The person may have already been treated for the initial infection, and there may be a delay of weeks before the symptoms of reactive arthritis show themselves. Reiter's syndrome is diagnosed when reactive arthritis is evident, and at least one other non-joint area, such as the eyes, skin or muscles, is affected. Not every person who gets an infection that can cause Reiter's syndrome will also develop the disease. Some people may have a genetic predisposition and, therefore, may have a higher risk of developing Reiter's syndrome.

What are the symptoms of Reiter's syndrome?
Symptoms of Reiter's syndrome typically begin one to two weeks after the initial infection, and the first symptom is usually inflammation of the urethra. The symptoms are pain and discharge from the genitals. The conjunctiva can become red and inflamed, causing itching or burning and excessive tearing. Joint pain and inflammation may be mild or severe. Several joints are usually affected at once, especially the knees, toe joints, and areas where tendons are attached to bones, such as the heels. In more severe cases, the spine may also become inflamed and painful. Sores and a rash may develop in the mouth and on the skin. In most people the initial symptoms disappear in 3 to 4 months. In half, however, the condition recurs over several years.

Conventional medical treatments may help relieve the symptoms of Reiter's syndrome but they do not address the root of the problem. Generally, by undergoing comprehensive natural medicine testing, the reasons the body is producing antibodies against itself can be found. Some of these reasons include sensitivities or allergies to foods, inhalants and chemicals and various infections.
