You just found out you were a Monkey, either by coming into Caring Medical and having Diet Typing done, or by taking our online quiz. In both cases you may not have fully understood what it means to be a Monkey! Here’s a list of the top 10 guidelines Monkeys should follow!

Veggies, veggies, and more veggies. This is the staple of your diet. Each meal should include them. Get creative and try not only new ways to prepare your vegetables, but new vegetables in general. There are probably vegetables you’ve never even heard of out there, or if you have, you didn’t know exactly what they were. How about trying jicama and spaghetti squash this week?

Get in your whole grains. If you use to be a meat person, it may be hard to make this switch, but it’s the best thing for you. Load up on whole wheat pasta, legumes, and enjoy a big bowl of oatmeal for breakfast! Along with vegetables, this is the other big part of your meal plan.

Healthy fats are still needed in your diet, just in moderation. While fats like bacon and butter may not be the best choices for a vegetarian type diet, things like olive oil and nuts would provide good sources of fat for Monkeys.

Vegetarian style protein sources may go down easier for Monkeys. Using tofu, or even eggs and fish could make you feel better than a big fatty steak. Being a low fat diet, choosing low fat protein sources just work better with your diet.

Only eat when you’re hungry. Monkeys tend to do well without eating frequently. You may only need a couple meals a day to feel good and energized. Go with what feels right. If small meals through out the day makes you feel better, then go with it.

Don’t be careless when you go out to eat. It’s pretty easy to get vegetables and other carbs at restaurants, but it’s what these items are cooked in that could make your good effort go to waste. Restaurants tend to use a lot of oil and butter when preparing foods. This give Monkeys a lot more fat than what they need. More incentive to cook for yourself!

No low carb! Your diet is not low carb, so don’t waste money on low carb items like bread, salad dressing, and low sugar jelly. These items may have less carbs, but in order to produce the product, other things have been thrown in, like artificial sweeteners in low sugar jelly.

Stay with the natural products! Stay away from rice and pastas in a packet! These are preseasoned, processed, foods that are striped of much of their nutritional value. Make your own whole wheat pasta and throw in your favorite seasonings, not only will it give you more nutrients, it will taste better too!

Don’t let the fact that you are allowed a little sugar get you in a rut. Make the sugar you do take in come naturally or in a natural form. Use things like honey in your tea or real fruit spread on your toast for your simple carbs. Loading up on soda and sweets will hurt your health in the long run.

Dairy intake should be kept to a minimum. Having a glass of milk or a little yogurt each day is fine, but don’t load up on cheese AND yogurt AND then have milk at dinner too. This is way too much dairy for your Diet Type. Keep in mind that dairy is an animal product and things like cheese can tend to be high in fat, not good for the Monkey!

Take these ten tips of the trade and put them into practice. They will help you get the most out of your Hauser Monkey Diet.
