Real food is needed for healing!

Recently Dr. Hauser and I attended two Prolotherapy meetings for Prolotherapy doctors, new, as well as experienced, to learn both new innovations in the field, as well as those entering the field and just starting their Prolotherapy practices. Both meetings were well-attended and provided excellent lectures on a wide array of topics. One of the topics presented at both meetings involved addressing the patients' overall health status to optimize their healing from Prolotherapy (a regenerative injection technique used to stimulate the body to heal itself from injuries.)

America's poor nutritional status is becoming more and more of a problem in nearly every field of medicine. Studies show that since the advent of low fat, low sugary (fake foods) people are not getting leaner, they are getting fatter! Doctors are finally realizing that they need to address this with their patients, as was evidenced at these two national meetings. The role of diet in healing:

Choosing to live a healthy lifestyle is 100% in your court. It's about deciding what you are doing for yourself to not only optimize healing, but help prevent chronic disease(s) that many people feel is just a part of the aging process. You can never underestimate the power of food!

10 Tips to Optimize Health and Healing:

1. Eat fresh food. If you can do anything to improve your diet, eat fresh food. What IS fresh food? Food that does not come in a can or a box! This includes fresh meats, poultry, eggs, and fish, along with fresh vegetables, dairy or dairy substitute, whole grains, and a small amount of fruit, depending on your Hauser Diet Type. Fresh food contains so much more nutritional value than fast food, fake food, and processed food. Nourish your bodies so that it can get the nutrients it needs for healing.

2. Cook your own food. Once you purchase your fresh food, learn fast and easy ways to prepare them. Cooking most simple meals can take 30-40 minutes or less. Using the stove top or oven to saute or roast meats and vegetables makes for fast and easy meals.

3. Stop using the microwave to "cook" or "heat" your food. If you are trying to improve your health, don't ruin the nutritional value of your food by microwaving it.

4. Remove soda (diet or regular) and other sweet drinks completely from your diet. Switch to sparkling water, homemade iced tea (love that sun tea!), and use fruit juice to add a taste of sweetener if needed. Lemon, limes, and oranges taste great in water!

5. Dump the processed foods. The food industry is big business. Their advertising methodology tries to get you to purchase so-called fast and easy "health food." There is no reason for anyone to purchase foods that say "low fat" "low carb" or "low sugar" these foods have been altered and are not natural, but fake. Choose real food!

5. Eat according to your Hauser Diet Type. One thing that was evident from talking to doctors in the alternative health care industry there is still a question as to what is considered "healthy" for each person. To us, the Hauser Diet concept makes so much sense IE there is no ONE healthy diet for all people. Some people require more protein and fat in their diets (Lion and Otter diets), while others require more carbs (Monkey and Giraffe diets.)

6. Consume a good source of protein daily. Here in our colder climate, we find that many people test out to be Hauser Lions and Otters (as well as those facing adult onset diabetes.) This means that they need to consume some form of protein at all of their meals, such as beef, chicken, pork, fish, eggs, lamb, veal, tofu, etc. So often people revert back to their carb-based diets that include a myriad of carbs that include things like white bread, rice, potatoes, pizza crust, bagels, fruit, sweets, juices, toast, pop tarts, cakes, cookies, and the like. Most people require a food paradigm shift.

7. Eat your veggies. Mom was right! As you have heard us say in other news letters, most people are severely vegetable deprived. Veggies contain so many healing and disease preventing properties! When is the last time you prepared roasted Brussels sprouts, asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, butternut squash, and the like? These are fabulous tasting, and great for you! For us here at Hauser Diet, we love drizzling veggies with a little EVOO, sprinkling them with kosher salt and fresh ground pepper, and popping them into a 425 degree oven for 20 minutes. Talk about making veggies taste great! Give it a try! Here is another article on 10 Tips for Adding Vegetables to your Diet.

8. Drink enough water. Each person requires different amounts of water. But a good rule of thumb is that you should not wait to drink until you are thirsty. Most people do not like drinking water, so you have to work at drinking enough every day. It makes for great skin, lubricated joints, and thin blood! So drink up!

9. Get on a good supplement program. We use vitamins and herbs from www.benuts.com because we know that these products are pharmacy grade. Give yourself a little help as you age and take supplements to keep your blood thin, balance your hormones, improve energy, and supply missing nutrients. Give the folks at Benuts.com a call if you need assistance.

10. Exercise regularly. We realize that exercising is not a food. But if you exercise, you are certainly able to eat more. As big-time foodies, we know that regular exercise allows us to not have to eat like birds as our metabolisms slow with aging. It's all about being fit! We've said it before. Start with walking. Work up to a mile, then 2 miles, then more. You can do it. Or start swimming laps. Ride your bike. Hike in the woods. There are so many fun things out there to do! Pick one or two! or three or four! Now it is up to you! It's a great time to feel great!
