At What Rate Are You Converting Food Into Energy? Bookmark and Share

< Back Make an Appointment

A basic concept of life is that we eat to provide our bodies with the fuel it needs. For each individual some foods are much better fuel sources than others, this is the basic concept of the Hauser Diet.

The rate at which the body turns food into the maximum amount of energy is called the oxidative metabolic rate or OMR. As part of our Diet Typing testing at Caring Medical we perform the Glucose Tolerance Test on patients to help determine how their body breaks down carbohydrates, as a fast oxidizer, “normal” or balanced oxidizer, or as a slow oxidizer. This helps us adjust their diets to get the maximum energy out of their foods and help them avoid foods that make them sluggish, tired, and not feeling well.

Fast Oxidizers
The concept here is that if you burn carbohydrates too quickly, you need to eat more protein and fats, “slow burning foods.” These patients are asked to follow the Hauser Diet #1 Lion Metabolism, Hauser Diet #2 Otter Metabolism diet plans.

But isn’t it good to burn off food quickly? No.

Burning food too quickly leads to insulin peaks and valleys in the blood stream, release of hormones at inappropriate times, and general ill health. Fast oxidizers need to eat foods that are digested more slowly

Balanced Oxidizers
A balanced oxidizer breaks down carbohydrates and foods at a normal rate so they are put on Hauser #3, a Bear Metabolism diet plan of balance between protein/fats and carbohydrates.

Someone who breaks down food very slowly, a slow oxidizer, needs to get their body fuel from foods that break down quickly, carbohydrates.

They are prescribed Hauser Diet #4, modified low fat/low protein diet for “Monkey metabolisms,” and Hauser Diet #5, the Giraffe Metabolism, a vegetarian diet very low in protein and fats.

The whole concept here is to burn the right foods for the maximum amount of energy.
