Avoiding weight gain made simple
At Caring Medical we all know that the months between October and January can represent weight gain for many people. We are all faced with temptations starting with Halloween (starts with that dreaded Halloween candy!), through Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Years. These holidays center around food BUT you do not have to gain weight.
If you are following Lion and Otter diets Hauser Lions and Otters need to keep their focus on protein and vegetable containing foods watching your portions and avoiding the sweets and offerings of the holidays. Alcohol is not your friend. Stick to sparkling water with a twist! Plan your eating when you know you are going to be attending a party. At buffets, choose proteins such as sliced meat, chicken, and fish with a side of veggies. Stop eating when you start to feel full and walk away from the food.
If you are following Monkey and Giraffe diets Monkey and Giraffe Diet Types need to focus on lean protein, much more vegetables, and some whole grain carbohydrates and fruits. Do not fill up on sweets and be careful with the portions! Look for vegetables whenever you can and resist those creamy delicious dips that accompany them. If you bring a dish to pass, bring some roasted veggies! Always a big hit and fits into your Diet Type! if you have an alcoholic beverage, limit the amount and sip it throughout the evening. Those beverage calories can add up! Stop eating when you feel full.
If you are following the Bear diet Watch the portions! Watch the portions! Although Bears are allowed to eat a balance of foods, dont overdo it. Be careful to notice how full you are feeling and stop eating when you just start feeling full. Drink water prior to attending a party so that you are not so hungry. Take just a nibble of each item when faced with a buffet table. And of course, dont go nuts with the desserts, cookies, and sweets.
Think Healthy Eat Healthy Part of the Hauser Diet is learning how to eat better quality, fresh foods. The holidays make it tempting to reach for pre-made products loaded with chemicals and additives. Steer clear of those and start FRESH! Here are two of our favorite, easy, delicious, and super healthy foods:
Roasted Fresh Vegetables: One of the most delicious, nutritious, and best ways to prepare fresh vegetables is to lightly coat them with olive oil and kosher salt, place them on a baking sheet, and pop them in the 425 degree oven for about 20 to 30 minutes. Roasting brings out the sweetness and the flavor. Vegetables are a food that all Hauser Diet Types need.
Baked sweet potatoes: These orange colored potatoes are filled with potassium, vitamin A, vitamin B6, and fiber! Lions and Otters may eat a small serving as a side dish, where the other three Diet Types can make these a staple.
• A pinch of kosher salt, a small drizzle of olive oil, and a shake of cinnamon make baked sweet potatoes a delicious healthy alternative to the more calorically-dense sweet potato casseroles loaded with butter and sugar. OR you can slice them up and bake them as baked sweet potato fries another favorite!

Traditional holiday offerings that can add to the bulge if you are not careful: Alcoholic beverages: We all know that if you are trying to watch your weight, consuming alcohol will not help you.
Desserts: We all know that if you are trying to watch your weight, desserts will not help you and the excessive sugar is not a great thing for your immune system.
The ever popular heavy cream sauces and gravies: One of the downfalls that many Giraffes and Monkeys face is their desire for creamy rich foods.
Unfortunately, fat is not something in abundance on the Giraffe and Monkey Hauser Diets. Try fresh herbs and seasonings to add extra flavor. Otters and Lions can have the sauces/gravies, however, they need to watch the portions, as do the Bears.
