BONE FRACTURES AND PROLOTHERAPY Bookmark and Share

Bone fractures in athletes usually heal well, but the blood vessels, ligaments, and tendons ripped and torn in the injury, do not. Once the cast is removed, these damaged structures cause persistent pain and/or weakness in many athletes.

Bones heal because they have a rich blood supply, ligaments do not heal well because they have a terrible blood supply. So while the bone heals nicely, it is more likely that the ligaments will not heal completely.

For the athlete, after the cast is removed, the best approach to guarantee complete healing of a sports injury is to receive a Prolotherapy evaluation by an experienced Prolotherapist. If weakness or tenderness is found in the ligaments, Prolotherapy to these structures is recommended. This helps ensure complete healing so there are no long-term sequelae such as arthritis. In addition to this, Prolotherapy can help speed the recovery process and strengthen the injured area. Prolotherapy stimulates the repair of the injured area, thus helping the ligaments and joints regain strength in a period of weeks, versus months, as occurs with traditional post-operative therapy. Prolotherapy can even make the injured area stronger than the other non-injured side.
