Bears, Have a Healthy Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving is usually the kickoff for eating, eating, and more eating. A common myth is that the average person gains 10 pounds over the Holidays. That may be a bit exaggerated, but most of us do notice our clothes fitting a bit tighter as Thanksgiving ends and holiday parties begin. But this year can be different! Make a commitment today to stick to your diet type throughout the holidays. Your body will thank you!
We encourage all of our Bear patients to keep in mind the Bear Diet concepts: the meals should be perfectly balanced with complex carbohydrates, protein, fat and vegetables – without overeating!
This may seem impossible with Thanksgiving, but that couldn’t be further from the truth! Thanksgiving can easily be rich in carbohydrates, so make a conscious effort to create balance on your plate.
If you are in charge of cooking the meal, you have control over what types of recipes you use – and there are some great Bear-friendly recipes out there! If you are going somewhere else for dinner, bring a side dish and keep your eyes open for food items that work for you. And most importantly, remember to eat slowly, chew your food completely, and stop eating when you just start to feel full.
Appetizers:
Roasted pumpkin bisque
Spiced Nuts
Salad with mixed greens, toasted pumpkin seeds and Asiago cheese
Main Meal:
4-6oz serving of white-meat roasted turkey
Herbed mashed potatoes (leave the skin on) or roasted sweet potatoes
Green beans with shallots and almonds
Roasted carrots with spices
Dessert:
Apple-crisp
Coconut ambrosia
Spiced hot chocolate with 2% milk
Sounds good, right? If you typically aren’t in charge of the Turkey Day meal, we encourage you to get cookin’! There are just too many great Bear options out there to not experiment with a new recipe. Have fun and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
