Coffee is the #1 antioxidant source in the U.S.
Recently, researchers stated that coffee is American’s number one source for anti-oxidants!
We believe part of the reason this is true is because coffee is addictive and so many people drink so much of it to get through the day.
If Americans are getting most of their antioxidants from coffee, this tells us they are not eating enough fruit and veggies. Fruits and vegetables are more nutritious for you because they 1) contain higher levels of antioxidants than coffee and 2) supply vitamin A, vitamin C, and beta-carotene nutrients and 3) are high in fiber. We’re not saying coffee is bad for you in limited quantities; but you can become addicted to the caffeine. Here at Caring Medical we believe that being addicted to any substance is not healthy. If you cannot get through the day without coffee, cola, tea, sugar, or another substance, then you have an addiction. High levels of coffee consumption can cause unwanted side effects like insomnia, over-stress, arrhythmia, etc which can lead to more serious conditions.
Why are antioxidants important?
Antioxidants help rid the body of free radicals, which damage cells and DNA. Studies have shown them to be effective against heart disease and cancer.
Is coffee good or bad for you? Your Blood pH is what really matters…not the amount of antioxidants.
Your probably wondering how your blood would make coffee good or bad for you. Well the answer lies in your overall body chemistry. The alkalinity and acidity of your blood determines which foods and drinks you should put into your body. This test is called a Diet Typing.
Coffee is filled with caffeine and sugar (if you add sugar to your coffee). These substances acidify the blood, which means if you consume these foods your blood pH will lower (acidify). If your blood is either too low or too high this can affect your health and feeling of well being.
Acid Blood - pH less than 7.50
Neutral Blood – pH is at 7.51
Alkaline Blood – pH is higher than 7.52
So the point in whether coffee is good or bad for you is determined by where your blood pH falls on this scale. If your blood is alkaline and you drink coffee, your body should feel fine. Just make sure that the coffee that you drink in caffeinated organic coffee due to the low levels of chemicals. Decaf is loaded with chemicals from processing. If your blood is already acidic and you drink more acidifying food and/or beverages (like coffee with/without sugar) you are going to feel low in energy and fatigued. Coffee may have a lot of antioxidants in it, but that doesn’t mean it’s still healthy for you. If you are addicted to coffee you should see a natural medicine doctor who can determine your blood pH.
There could be something else wrong that causes your body to crave “uppers”, such as high stress, which can lead to adrenal fatigue. Adrenal fatigue happens when your body undergoes a lot of stress. This means the adrenal hormone is being overly used and becomes so strained that it finally stops functioning. The adrenal glad is a gland that produces a hormone called cortisol in your body. Cortisol is what helps you deal with stress and nervous situations. Once the cortisol is used up, your body will not be able to handle stressful situations and you will become emotionally fatigued and feel chronically tired.
