My life is out of control!

BM is a 32 year old married mother of 3 children who lives with her husband in one of the Chicago suburbs about 45 minutes from Oak Park where Caring Medical is located. BM became so desperate with her condition that she started searching for help online when she came across our website. She came to Caring Medical stating that she has been "sick and weak" for most of her life. Her current symptoms she reported were hair loss, fatigue, "non-stop" menses, and insomnia. Her medical history included the following: At the age of 18 she suffered with bad endometriosis and had one ovary removed. She has had problems with her period for most of her adult life. Her 3 pregnancies were extremely difficult. During her recent episode of hair loss and extreme fatigue, she started taking an adrenal supplement that worked for a while but then caused her to break out in hives so badly that she had to start on Prednisone 20 mg 4 times per day. She felt like her life was crashing in on her. She was a mess. She did not know where to turn.

There is more to the story: BM's medical history continues

During discussions with BM, she reported that she always felt cold. Her storage of iron (ferritin) has been low for years. Her diet was high in carbohydrate containing foods such as fruits, fruit juices, breads, cereals and the like. She was very thin at 5'4" and 109 pounds. In the past, BM had been treated with Prednisone, Nystatin, Pepsid, Diflucan, and Benadryl.

Dr. Hauser's health assessment for BM's condition

Dr. Hauser felt that BM could be suffering from food sensitivities but we would take the results into consideration because she was still taking Prednisone. He felt that all of her symptoms were multi-factorial and might include hormone issues, adrenal issues, metabolic problems, celiac disease, and of course, dietary problems. BM definitely was onboard with trying to figure out what was wrong with her. She didn't care what it took to find out! Patient had Hauser Diet Typing (that included GITT, venous blood pH, HgbA1C, insulin levels x 2); as well as histamine levels; blood hormone levels; adrenal profile; candida profile, and a celiac panel.

Health goals determined

BM reported that her primary goal was to "achieve good health for the first time in my life. I want to have a body that can fight off infection. And finally being able to feel warm would be really nice too!" When drawing her labs, the nurse reported that BM was even producing a reaction to the gauze and the tape (hive-like reaction) even though she had never had this type of reaction in the past.

Laboratory testing revealed need for some big health changes

The food sensitivity testing on BM revealed sensitivities to egg, gluten, and dairy. BM's Diet Typing revealed that she was a "flat liner" meaning that she didn't mount any kind of glucose reaction after drinking the juice. Her venous blood pH was actually alkaline at 7.444 and her fasting insulin level was 7 (high) and her HbA1c was5.3. Dr. Hauser started BM on a casein, gluten, and egg free Hauser Lion Diet. We provide her with suggestions of foods to add to her diet such as nut butters to provide longer lasting energy, as well as salmon/smoked fish for breakfast, and Chia, soy or coconut milks instead of cow's milk. BM's cortisol levels were skewed most likely due to Prednisone. She did not have celiac's disease, but she did have gluten sensitivity/allergy. She also was positive for systemic Candida infection so she was started on a natural supplement for Candida, along with probiotics. She also started back on an adrenal supplement. Her hormones were also low, but Dr. Hauser did not want to overload her with hormones along with everything else.

Making diet changes can be difficult, but worthwhile

BM came in for a two month follow-up visit. She reported that she felt warmer following the Lion Diet. She was adding more meat to her diet which she was not accustomed to eating, but she was doing it. eating protein before bed like Dr. Hauser suggested greatly improved her sleep as well. She was avoiding all alcohol and most carbs. She felt that her overall health results were astounding. She had never felt this good in her life! At this point, Dr. Hauser said she could be changed to the Otter Diet and to have a tiny bit of alcohol was okay, but to monitor how she felt on it. She also started on some hormones to help that aspect of her health.

BM also told us that she felt so good on her diet, that she was starting to eliminate sugars, wheat and dairy from her children's diets. Patient felt she was doing so well on the Hauser Diet that she started to transition her children and husband into more healthy eating habits and she could definitely see an improvement in their overall behavior and health.

Six months after her initial consultation, BM reported that she has been feeling great. Her stress levels have improved and her family has been doing great from the dietary changes they were all making. She is still struggling with some hair loss but it has slowed down tremendously. BM says that she now has her life back and that she can function as a normal human being which she has not been able to do in years. She is so grateful to Dr. Hauser and Caring Medical that she has been referring all of her friends here for treatment of their pain with Prolotherapy, as well as the Hauser Diet. She is a walking billboard!
