Pseudo-gout is a condition that causes pain, redness, heat and swelling in one or more joints. Pseudo-gout is caused by deposits of calcium pyrophosphate dehydrate crystals in a joint, which weakens the cartilage and causes it to break down more easily. The presence of these crystals in the joints and the body’s reaction to these crystals, create inflammation to attack these crystals.

Pseudo-Gout is also referred to as a form of arthritis. For this, Pantothenic Acid and Glucosamine can be taken. Applying DMSO topically to the area can help relieve some of the pain, in addition to taking oral Bromelain.

Some causes of pseudo-gout may be lack of Vitamin E or digestive enzymes. Supplementing with these will help many cases resolve. Prolotherapy can be used on the effected areas. Pseudo-gout may also be associated with thyroid and parathyroid disorders. Ask your physician for a Hormone Test and a Thyroid Profile.

A change in diet is often necessary for most patients with this condition. Patients should avoid polyunsaturated vegetable oils, all sources of trans-fatty acids such as margarine and partially hydrogenated vegetable oils, including fried foods. Instead your diet should include omega 3 fatty acids and flax seeds, fresh vegetables, fish, and lean protein sources. Patients should also take a potent antioxidant such as Omega 3.
