Hausers Running Hot Chocolate 15K recovered from sports injuries with Prolotherapy
Plagued with a variety of running and overuse injuries over the last year, Ross and Marion Hauser hope to do well in Chicago's upcoming Hot Chocolate 15K - along with 25,998 other runners on Saturday November 6th!

Marion had a pinched nerve in her neck over the summer which ended up being quite a serious injury. She experienced severe pain in her neck, as well as numbness down her left arm into her hand. She attributed this to poor posture in front of her computer, long hours in front of her computer, and increased time on her bike training for an upcoming bicyling trip. A pinched nerve is a very scary condition to be involved in and VERY painful. I cannot tell you how thankful I am that I was able to receive Prolotherapy to my neck for this absolutely awful pain condition. Here is how I healed my injury:
1. Prolotherapy: I received two treatments 4 weeks apart.
2. Supplements: I loaded up with proteolytic enzymes and ProloSupport nutritionals during the treatment.
3. Neck support: I used Dr. Ho's neck supporting brace to alleviate the pressure/pinching during the early weeks. I slept without pillows and a rolled up towel under my neck to keep my neck straight.
4. Changed my work station: I stood at my computer desk at least 50% of the day. I eventually purchased an Ergotron adapator that allows me to lower and raise my station as needed.
5. Adapted my exercise routine: I rode in the upright position on my bike, and was very careful with running not to jar anything.
I am happy to say that I have made a 100% recovery of my sports injury using Prolotherapy as my primary treatment modality.
Dr. Hauser, on the other hand, was basically still recovering from that 100 mile running event back in April 2010 that he attempted to complete (completed 60 miles). His body was worn down from all of that training. He was basically doing a marathon (26.2 miles) per week for many weeks, on top of speed work and additional runs. He suffered from adrenal fatigue, overtraining, and sacroiliac pain as a result. He was able to finally recover and feel great using a combination approach:
1. Prolotherapy to the lower back and SI area.
2. Serola belt to stabilize the SI while healing.
3. Adrenal support in the form of supplements and hormones.
4. Adequate rest and nutrition - IE sleep and compliance with his Hauser Otter diet and food sensitivities!
5. Modification in exercise regime: he went with how his body felt. If he had pain or felt exhausted, he didn't exercise. He also trained for our bicycling trip, but only ran to keep up his base and did not do any running races throughout the summer.
Although sports injuries are not fun or can cause you to get down or depressed, addressing the injury right away is key. Fiddling around with motrin/advil, exercises, resting, or cortisone shots will only lengthen the recovery time.
