The Hauser Diet, Temperature, and Blood pH

HTe Hauser TeamUnderstanding the relationship of temperature to blood pH is key to understanding the basic tenants of the Hauser Diet. Knowing whether you feel better in hot or cold weather can give tremendous clues into what diet is best for you.

The effect of temperature on blood pH levels is the higher the temperature, the higher the blood pH. Therefore, typically people with higher blood pH levels require more carbohydrates in their diets (Monkeys and Giraffes). Likewise, the colder the temperature, the lower the blood pH, requiring more protein and fat in the diet (Lion or Otter Diets).

This map of the US takes the average high and low temperatures for each of the 50 states. The Hauser Diet theorizes that the higher the average temperature for the state, the higher the average blood pH level would be, consequently, the higher the amount of Monkeys and Giraffes in that state, as the above U.S map indicates.

Conversely, the lower the temperatures, the lower the average blood pH level and therefore, the more Otters and Lions in that state.

Obviously variations occur, and each person is treated as an individual when receiving actual Diet Typing testing. A person's overall medical condition also plays a role, as do other factors. However, you can never underestimate the effect of temperature on blood pH!

Hauser Diet® and Diet Typing Appointment Information

The Hauser Diet program is a physician-supervised program, so it requires that all patients requesting Diet Typing first see Dr. Hauser so that your overall health can be reviewed, and a comprehensive natural medicine evaluation be provided to you. Dr. Hauser will give you his plan for your whole health, including helping you figure out what diet is best for you and any other lab tests you might need to help you stay on track with your health throughout your entire life. After you have completed that consultation, you will then go to the laboratory for testing, and finally review the results with the nutritionist. Let us break it down for you a little more:

The Diet Typing process – What to expect:

a. Arrival and check-in:

  • We recommend your appointment be first thing in the morning, between 8-9AM.
  • You must come to the office fasting, meaning NO FOOD OR BEVERAGES for at least 10-12 hours prior. Only drink water.
  • You will go to Suite 600 to check in for your visit.
  • You may wish to bring a book or newspaper, some work, or a knitting project to do during the test.

b. Lab testing:

  • Our lab technician will bring you back to the lab where she will provide you with instructions on what the plan is for your lab testing.
  • Hauser Diet Typing requires at least one initial tube of blood (sometimes more depending on the lab package your doctor ordered), as well as finger stick glucose tests every 30 minutes for a minimum of 90 minutes.
  • After your first blood draw and glucose check, the lab tech will give you some juice to drink. Now we are testing your body’s response to carbohydrates, so you will need to drink up that juice in a matter of a few minutes!
  • After that, you will return to the waiting area for 30 minutes. You cannot eat or drink during this time, as we are testing your body’s physiologic response to the 50 gram glucose (juice) challenge.
  • The lab tech will provide you with a Diet Typing Questionnaire to complete while you are waiting the 30 minutes between glucose checks.
  • Please pay attention to how you feel while you are waiting, as we will be asking you to tell us your symptoms while you are in this state.
  • After 30 minutes, the lab tech will bring you back to the lab for another finger stick glucose check. She will also ask you to answer a few questions about how you are feeling. If you have completed the Diet Typing Questionnaire, please return it to the lab tech at that time. You will receive a copy of The Hauser Diet: A Fresh Look At Healthy Living!
  • You will return to your seat in the waiting room and repeat this process two more times for a total of three finger stick glucose checks after your initial one.
  • After your last glucose level has been drawn, you are free to eat and drink. Most of our patients bring some food and beverage to drink after testing because they have been fasting for so long and are usually very hungry! There are many great restaurants just steps from our building, if you prefer to dine out.

c. Follow up with Dr. Hauser for Diet Prescription:

  • If Dr. Hauser also ordered food allergy testing, hormone testing, or other profiles, in addition to Diet Typing your full set of results will be ready in 1-3 weeks. The lab technician will discuss this with you. We recommend waiting for all of the tests to come in before returning for a follow-up visit.
  • At your follow-up visit, Dr. Hauser will discuss your Diet Typing results. You will also receive a DVD and individualized packet for your Diet Type. Along with the book you received at your first visit, these tools are what you will use to get started on your new diet plan.
