Video Transcription

Welcome to Caring Medical, my name is Ross Hauser, I’m Medical Director here at Caring Medical in Oak Park Illinois. I’ve been doing Prolotherapy since 1993, pretty much full time. I learned the technique from Dr. Hemwall, who was instructed on the technique from the inventor of the term “Prolotherapy,” Dr. Hackett. As you probably already know Prolotherapy is an injection technique that stimulates the proliferation of cells to repair joints. It’s very helpful for anyone who has a hypermobile or loose joint as well as any type of ligament injury, tendon injury, or arthritis. We felt a couple of years ago that it would be helpful to actually videotape some of the procedures as they are done at Caring Medical. You’re about to view one of those videotapes. We hope that you fins it very helpful and that it answers all of your questions, but if you have further questions, feel free to contact me at drhauser@caringmedical.com. We also have a lot of information on our website at www.caringmedical.com. Again, I thank you for your interest in Prolotherapy.

This video demonstrates the Hackett-Hemwall technique of dextrose Prolotherapy of the ankle. Here I’m injecting the medial ankle. You know it’s Dr. Hauser because of the crazy, multicolored sweater. It’s actually one of my favorite sweaters. On the medial side you’ll basically see me treat the whole deltoid ligament. This will involve Prolotherapy injections on the medial malleolus, the tallus, and the navicular bone. Not only am I doing the deltoid ligament but also the dorsal talonavicular ligament. You can see that it is a lot of shots, but Prolotherapy is like spot welding. You have to treat all the areas with Prolotherapy where the ligaments are stretched out or injured. The most common ligament injury in the body is an ankle sprainor an inversions sprain where the lateral ligamentsof the ankle are injured. This includes the talofibular, anterior and posterior ligamentsas well as the calcaneofibular ligament.

Prolotherapy works extremely well on ankle sprains. Though, we also see a lot of degenerative arthritisof the ankle, at Caring Medical, and Prolotherapy injections work incredibly well for that too. You can see that the treatment doesn’t take very long. I should mention that this person is not sedated in any way. Most of our patients get Hacket-Hemwall Prolotherapy without any sedation, though we do rub an anesthetic cream on the skin. You can see the patient twitching a little bit, but again, the whole treatment only takes a few minutes. We’re treating all the ligaments of the ankle very thoroughly. This is one of the reasons for its success. I’m just finishing up treating the lateral ligaments here, doing the cuboid boneand some other ligaments of the foot. There’s a little bit of bleeding, but the treatment is all done.
