What is comprehensive Prolotherapy? I think that it is important for folks to know this. A lot of folks probably understand that we get a lot of emails to Caring Medical from all over the globe. The number one reason, if I was going to say why somebody doesn’t heal by Prolotherapy, is because they did not get Prolotherapy. Let me give you an example. Comprehensive Prolotherapy is when you have to treat all the structures that are causing the pain. That is kind of the cardinal rule.

Most people with lower back pain, and this is just a model of the lower back (holds up model of sacroiliac model). This is the right sacroiliac and  left sacroiliac ligaments. As you can see, if somebody was going to get Prolotherapy to all these ligaments, you can’t just do one or two shots. You have of think of Prolotherapy like spot welding. A person would need Prolotherapy here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here (pointing to numerous ligament attachments on the model). Obviously it going to be a lot of shots. If you want to get tightening of the ligaments here and here you have to comprehensively treat this area.

Not only do you have to comprehensively treat this area, get more than two shots you have to have to get enough solution. The number two reason why do not heal from Prolotherapy is the doctor just doesn’t inject enough solution. You have to inject a lot of solution. Another thing is that Prolotherapy solution must be strong enough that you get a good inflammatory reaction.

Comprehensive Prolotherapy is where you comprehensively treat the area. In other words, it is a wide area that you are treating. Second is that Prolotherapy is done with enough fluid. Third is that it is done with a very strong solution. If you do those things then the most likely you are going to resolve your pain with Prolotherapy. The method that we use in this office is Hackett-Hemwall Prolotherapy. Dr. Hackett coined the term Prolotherapy. I was Dr. Hemwall’s associate and I took over his practice. He died in 1998. Before that he had turned the practice over to me. So I feel an obligation, not only to do the way that Dr. Hackett and Dr. Hemwall did, but also do it in a method where my patients get better quicker rather than later. We really try to get people better as quickly as possible, and the best way to do that is with comprehensive Prolotherapy.
